Granulated lime is now available from Longcliffe which facilitates the appplication of lime through standard farm fertiliser spreaders thus enabling farmers to apply the product themselves. Granulated limes are most suited for use on slightly acid soils or as a maintenance dressing to replace seasonal soil lime losses.

Agricultural Lime is one of the limestone quarrying industry's traditional products, recognised for centuries as an important farming supplement and is still widely used today to help maximise crop yields and minimise the use of other, more costly fertilisers.
Over time the acidity of soils tends to increase. The addition of calcium carbonate helps stabilise the acidity of the soil and provides essential calcium for support of crops. Liming is well understood to hold the key to improving crop growth and yields by limiting the adverse affects of high soil acidity (low pH values). Substantial research has been done on the optimal pH range for various crops.
Regular pH testing forms the basis of successful agricultural lime application. Longcliffe offers this service as part of their customer support package along with field mapping and expert advice on products and application techniques. Longcliffe can also complete the service by spreading it for you. With our purpose-built flotation spreader designed to give flyweight performance with up to a 6-tonne load, we can even lime seedbeds and growing crops. Or we can use a tractor and spreader, or the faster 4-wheel-drive Unimog.
Both ground calcium (CaCO3) and ground magnesium limes (Ca,Mg(CO3)2 - dolomite) are available from Longcliffe.
Ground agricultural lime is produced from high purity calcium carbonate rock. It is produced from the Company’s quarrying and production plant at Brassington in Derbyshire. The material is crushed, milled and screened to produce a material with a high neutralising value (NV).
Longcliffe ground agricultural dolomite is produced from pure dolomite rock at the Company’s Ryder Point quarry in Derbyshire. It is produced to a similar physical specification, but chemically is a combination of magnesium and calcium carbonate, often referred to as 'double carbonate'. This is offered as an alternative pH improver for those applications requiring a magnesium supplement.
Transportation of material is by Longcliffe's own vehicle fleet plus hired local contractors. Helped by the quarry's location close to the centre of England, quick and timely deliveries are assured. Deliveries are made all over the UK, in all weathers, 365 days a year.
We have a long-established relationship with the farming community, dating back more than 50 years. This experience in meeting the needs of the farmer, combined with our technical expertise and strict quality control, ensures complete reliability from our wide range of products and services.
