High purity, granular calcium carbonate (GCC) products
The Longcal range of granular calcium carbonates is produced from very high purity Carboniferous Limestone at our company's Brassington Moor quarry and processing operations in Derbyshire. The material has been crushed, milled, dried and classified to produce products of exceptional purity and consistency available in a variety of sizes.
High purity, Longcal limestone is an essential component of feeds for poultry, pigs and cattle as a calcium supplement and antacid. Poultry require grit to assist with digestion and strengthen shells for proper egg production.
Asphalt is a mixture of bitumen, sand and aggregate fillers which is used in the construction and repair of roads, car parks, pavements and driveways. Longcal GCC is often used as a part of the solid aggregate filler mix.
In low-fire bodies, Longcal is used in small amounts to reduce fired shrinkage. It is also included in porous earthenware recipes to prevent moisture expansion. Limestone is also used as a flux in ceramic glazes.
Longcal GCC is used in the manufacture of granular and compound fertilisers. These are often tailored to particular farm production systems and regional soil deficiencies. Longcal is also used as a carrier in certain agrochemical and pesticide formulations.
Limestone is used to neutralise and remove acids (sulphur dioxide) present in the flue gases of power generating facilities, and is used in flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) at coal fired power plants and municipal waste-to-energy plants.
Longcal is primarily used in the production of container glass (bottles, jars) with smaller quantities being used in the production of flat glass (glazing). Limestone for glass-making must be of a high purity and contain <0.036% iron oxide.
Longcal is used in the treatment of waste and drinking water to remineralise excessively soft water (aggressive to pipes) and to adjust the pH of acidic waters in lakes, waterways and reservoirs.
The typical physical properties of Longcal granular calcium carbonates are as follows:
|Appearance||grey/off white fine granules|
|Calcium Carbonate (%)||98.25 min|
|Available Grades/Sizes||300µm to 5mm|
|Tightly controlled granularity|
For further information please consult the relevant technical data sheet.
Longcal is available in a wide range of grades and granularities ranging from 300Ám to 5mm, including grades that comply with British Standard specifications BS EN 6925:1988 (Aggregates for mastic asphalt) and BS EN 13043 (Aggregates for bituminous mixtures).
Our operations are fully accredited to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001. Datasheets and SDS on specific grades are available on request. Please contact us for further information.
Longcal Granular Calcium Carbonate is available in bulk, IBCs and sacks - palletised and shrunk wrapped if required.
Limestone (CAS: 1317-65-3 & EINECS: 215-279-6) is exempt from the obligation to pre-register under the REACH legislation. The exemption is granted in Annex V, Paragraph 7 as the material is a naturally occurring mineral found in nature.
