Fine, high purity Ground Calcium Carbonate (GCC) powders
The Superlon range of ground calcium carbonate (GCC) powders is produced from very high purity Carboniferous Limestone at our company's Brassington Moor quarry and processing operations in Derbyshire. The material has been crushed, milled, dried and screened, then milled and classified again to produce products of exceptional purity and consistency available in a variety of grades.
Superlon GCC is used as a filler and viscosity control additive in sealants, joint fillers, grouts and ceramic tile adhesives (CTA's). Sometimes ground calcium carbonate can constitute up to 80% of the formulation.
Superlon GCC is an important filler for strengthening the latex backing of rugs and carpets to help provide a degree of resiliency and stiffness.
Superlon fine, ground calcium carbonates are used as cement subsititutes, at levels of up to 20%, in Portland-limestone cements complying with BS EN 197-1.
Polishing and household cleaning formulations often incorporate Superlon GCC as a mild abrasive or inert binder. Finely ground limestone will not scratch glass, ceramics or steel surfaces.
Superlon GCC is used as functional filler and pigment extender in a variety of coatings including decorative paints, industrial coatings, road-marking paints and protective coatings.
Superlon GCC is often used as a filler in plasters, textured finishes, renders, plasterboards and joint fillers to reduce costs and to improve physical properties.
Superlon GCC is widely used as a functional filler in plastic products, comprising up to 25% of the volume, adding density, improving rheology and mechanical properties as well as reducing cost.
As an extender in the production of rubber compounds, Superlon GCC helps improve rheology and flow properties as well as reducing the cost of formulations. In certain applications it can also add stiffness or provide abrasion resistance.
Superlon GCC is used in flexible PVC and plastisols applications for floor coverings (vinyl flooring, carpet tiles) as well as wall-coverings and tarpaulins. Superlon reduces formulation costs and enhances mechanical properties.

Limestone (CAS: 1317-65-3 & EINECS: 215-279-6) is exempt from the obligation to pre-register under the REACH legislation. The exemption is granted in Annex V, Paragraph 7 as the material is a naturally occurring mineral found in nature.
